Tattooed Pumpkin IPA

Tattooed Pumpkin IPA

$9.00-$108.00

The toughest in the patch.

Art by Mike ‘Prospect’ Reda (@prospect_tattoo)

Our full-bodied, fall-forward, pumpkin IPA is back! And with the conversion of the Up & Comers line to the Y-Series, we’ve promoted Tattooed Pumpkin to the seasonal roster to make room for even more beer styles and artist collaborations!

It’s got the same, classic recipe as previous years featuring lots of pumpkin plus sweet chocolate and caramel malts all balanced by earthy, piney hops. The sweet malts also balance out the big spice flavors of added Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, Clove, Allspice, and Vanilla. The IPA style is unique for a Pumpkin beer, but the bitterness is low so the hops don’t overwhelm the pumpkin and spice flavors.

With its move to seasonal, we also decided to carve a new Jack-o-lantern for the label. So we enlisted the skills of Mike ‘Prospect’ Reda, a tattoo artist at Bronx-based Tattoo Seen, who brought us a menacing one-eyed Jack-O-Lantern staring out from the can in a traditional tattoo style.

Hop Bill: Chinook, Crystal, Delta, Sultana – earthy, pine-y, slightly fruity
Malt Bill: Pilsner, 2-Row, Carapils, Flaked Oats, Flaked Wheat, Caramel (120), Victory, Chocolate
What Else? Pumpkin, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, Clove, Allspice, Vanilla

About Prospect Reda

How long have you been tattooing?

15 years on September 10th, I believe.

How did you get introduced to the classic-american style of tattooing?

I always loved tattoos that looked like tattoos, skulls, panthers, eagles, but my apprenticeship really locked in a love for the history and appreciation for what came before in American tattooing.

How has your art/work evolved in the past 15 years?

I feel like my work and art have both changed a lot over the years, from working with really talented people around me and just becoming more proficient and confident due to repetition.

Where do you look for inspiration the most?

Inspiration especially in tattooing comes from anything. Some of my favorite tattoos I’ve made are T-shirt graphics or cool band logos. I feel like that’s where the artistic side of tattooing comes in, taking whatever subject matter and making it a design that looks good on the body and hopefully will for the life of the person wearing it.

How do you fill your personal cup?

Tattooing can be all consuming so as much as I love it I do appreciate being able to step away and go for a bike ride or just go thrifting. But even if I go on vacation odds are I will end up in a tattoo shop at some point.

How do you keep skills sharp/fresh?

It’s just trying to keep up with tattooing. There’s always something new to try or a new tattooer doing something totally different so keeping abreast of what’s going on in the industry is a great motivator.

As a vegan, do you like pumpkin? If so, what is your favorite pumpkin-flavored food/item?

Oddly enough growing up was never a fan, pumpkin pie grossed me out and the only other interaction I had with them was carving jackolanterns. Now I’ll try pretty much anything pumpkin flavored and pumpkin tempura really slaps.

What's your favorite BX spot and why?

Besides the brewery? Commercially my buddy Justin’s shop Third Eye Throwbacks, I’m so proud of what he’s been able to accomplish and so glad there’s a space like that in the Bronx. Naturewise Orchard Beach, it has this bad rap for some reason but I feel like it’s this beautifully condensed version of the Bronx that gets slept on.

Do you have a favorite style of beer?

Wet. I’m easy when it comes to beer, as long as it doesn’t taste like I’m drinking soap I’m in. IPAs took some getting used to but pilsners, lagers, a nice sour, all good to go.

If you can tattoo one iconic cartoon/character for the rest of your life, which one would it be?

That’s easy, Snoopy! The epitome of cool and so versatile he can literally be anything. I have him tattooed on me and I’ve done more than I can count, never not fun to do.
