Power Up: Rice IPA w/ Passionfruit
"The Power Up you’re not gonna go without!"
Seasonal collaboration with Video Game Amateurs (@vgamateurs)
"Power Up is 5.5% ABV, 9 IBU, Rice IPA that’s direct and slightly malty with balanced bitterness in the company of stone-fruit and tropical fruit flavors. Brown rice flakes lighten body and flavors culminating in a clean, crisp flavor. Huell Melon & Mardarina Bavaria contribute distinct notes of summer melon with citrus flavor and aromatics.
Video Game Amateurs is a collective of POC creatives, tech enthusiasts, and passionate gamers that have built an inclusive community around tournaments & events, live streaming, and gaming content. The word Amateur is derived from the meaning “to love”, and we love creating experiences where video games can bring people together. Using gaming as a foundation, they aim to bridge the gap between casual gamers and industry leaders. VGA’s main focus has always been representation and fostering an inclusive community. As POCs, they represent the casual gamer, the budding streamer, and the pop-culture enthusiast. VGA strives to create experiences that they would enjoy and focus on inclusion in all of their efforts, whether joining them on our daily streams or hanging out with them at our events.
“VGA is a special collective for a number of reasons! We're super diverse and have a number of different resources and benefits to bring to individuals all of the city! It brings us much joy to see the joy we bring to children and adults alike across all walks of life. It's no secret that gaming has blossomed into even greater popularity post-pandemic; the same could be said for us, we look forward to continued growth and more opportunities."
The team of over 10 members all submitted potential names for the can. After the successful launch of their first beer partnership, “Select, Start”, they wanted a name that continued the “story” that VGA wanted to tell. In their first beer, you’re “starting the game” so in the second beer they wanted to follow another common theme in a video game, which is “powering up”. Once VGA decided on “Power Up” as the name they worked with Queens-based creative designer and DJ David “Veecio” Rodriguez, who fostered the creative process and has curated set lists at VGA’s past activations. VGA wanted to maintain a retro feel and incorporate the brand colors into the can. David could take these concepts and create a can that looked like an old-school “power-up” but did not look like an energy drink.
When asked "What do you hope to achieve with your art/platform?" VGA says:
When asked "If there's anything else you'd like to let people know?" VGA says:
“Being the first NYC-based gaming company to have a beer partnership is an honor and we’re truly thankful to Bronx Brewery for this opportunity. Bronx Brewery is committed to working with the community and its Y-Series initiative is a testament to that. We hope this is just the first of many collaborations!“
Tell us about your community collaborator:
The Community collaborator for Power Up’s release is Brotherhood/Sistersol. Brotherhood/Sistersol is a nonprofit organization based in Harlem that works with Black and Latinx youth to claim the power of their history, identity, and community to build the future they want to see. One of VGA’s Co-Founders; Luiggy Gomez, is an alumnus of the organization and their initiatives continue to inspire many POC like themselves. VGA understands the need for more youth empowerment and educational programs, they also do E-Sports boot camps at schools for this very reason and wanted to give back to an organization that is driven by that mission.
Proceeds received from the release of this beer will sponsor various creative endeavors at Brotherhood/Sistersol.

“A Transcendant Journey Through The Cosmos”
New Seasonal release of former Y-Series collaboration with Dynamics Art Gallery (@dynamicartsgallery)
Step into the ethereal realm of “Cosmic Haze,” a captivating 7% ABV 14 IBU Hazy India Pale Ale that defies the conventions of brewing. This is more than a beer; it’s an odyssey through the cosmos. A celestial fusion of 2-Row and Oat Flakes intertwines with White Wheat and Rice Hulls, creating a canvas as smooth as the billowy clouds drifting by distant stars. Strata and Mandarina Bavaria hops harmonize to deliver an enchanting medley of ripe tropical fruits and citrus notes, offering an interstellar bouquet for your palate. This brew’s can encapsulates the vibrant artistry of Christopher, a passionate artist from IAHD’s Arts program at the Dynamic Arts Gallery. Inspired by graffiti and street art, his work sets the tone for ‘Cosmic Haze.’ Christopher’s excitement and anticipation shine through as he shares, ‘I felt happy when they told me that my artwork was selected for this project.’ Christopher’s vibrant creation speaks volumes, inviting you to explore the cosmic landscape he’s painted. The collaboration with The Bronx Brewery and Dynamic Arts Gallery celebrates local artists, fostering inclusivity and community integration. DAG expressed pride in highlighting Christopher’s work and their joint commitment to embracing neurodiverse artists and fostering an inclusive community
“I started making art four years ago and have not stopped since. When I make art, I feel nervous at
first but after a while of working I feel better…“Christopher’s artistic vision, rooted in the energetic essence of graffiti and street art, ignited his desire to craft a celestial panorama. His creative journey was an exploration of cosmic landscapes, channeling vibrant hues and bold strokes to conjure a sense of boundless wonder.
Captivated by the essence and vibrancy of Christopher’s artwork, the Dynamic Arts Gallery (DAG) team found themselves immersed in its transcendent vibe. When asked “What do you hope to achieve with your art/platform?” Christopher says:
I want more people to see me as an artist. I like sharing my work with people and telling them I made this. Selling more of my artwork would be cool too!
When asked “If there’s anything else you’d like to let people know?” Christopher says:
I felt happy when they told me that my artwork was selected for this project, I am excited for people to see my work. The art instructor told my grandmother the news and she was so excited and proud of me. I am very happy and can’t wait to dance.
D-A-G says:
It’s been great to work with the Brewery to celebrate local artists from the Bronx!
We are proud to have Christopher’s work highlighted in this project. Our goal is to find partners in highlighting work by neurodiverse artists and making the community more inclusive.

The toughest in the patch.
Art by Mike ‘Prospect’ Reda (@prospect_tattoo)
Our full-bodied, fall-forward, pumpkin IPA is back! And with the conversion of the Up & Comers line to the Y-Series, we’ve promoted Tattooed Pumpkin to the seasonal roster to make room for even more beer styles and artist collaborations!
It’s got the same, classic recipe as previous years featuring lots of pumpkin plus sweet chocolate and caramel malts all balanced by earthy, piney hops. The sweet malts also balance out the big spice flavors of added Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, Clove, Allspice, and Vanilla. The IPA style is unique for a Pumpkin beer, but the bitterness is low so the hops don’t overwhelm the pumpkin and spice flavors.
With its move to seasonal, we also decided to carve a new Jack-o-lantern for the label. So we enlisted the skills of Mike ‘Prospect’ Reda, a tattoo artist at Bronx-based Tattoo Seen, who brought us a menacing one-eyed Jack-O-Lantern staring out from the can in a traditional tattoo style.
Hop Bill: Chinook, Crystal, Delta, Sultana – earthy, pine-y, slightly fruity
Malt Bill: Pilsner, 2-Row, Carapils, Flaked Oats, Flaked Wheat, Caramel (120), Victory, Chocolate
What Else? Pumpkin, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, Clove, Allspice, Vanilla -
